the duricks | lexington, ky family photographer

i say all my clients are wonderful, fabulous, amazing and awesome, and you all are, but if there is one family that is the absolute epitome of all that it’s this one. meet doug (dad), laurette (mom), maria, daniel and mark (maria’s husband). i’ve known the duricks since i was in 5th grade. i met maria in sunday school at church. my family followed them a couple years later to crossroads christian church, the church that will always hold my heart and my husband and i still call home. we went to church camp and youth group trips together, my younger brother was best friends with daniel and they played baseball together. doug coached their team. maria and i spent many hot days and nights watching and cheering for our little brothers over the years. the boys won their division one year in triple overtime, what a nail bitter that was!

there are so many good memories, but those aside this family is incredible for more than the past. maria is a third grade teacher. having a recent third grade graduate, i can’t image 20+ of them everyday. she’s got huge respect from me and that alone makes her a super woman in my book, although there is much more too her. shes also great in the kitchen. check out her blog! for insight into life and to get to know her and get some fantastic recipes.

laurette is that mom that raised amazing kids, but as an adult is their best friend. she’d never let you make a big deal about it, but anyone who’s a parent knows it is. doug is the dad mold every dad should be made from. he was super involved in the lives of his kids, coached athletic teams, but was not that crazy over bearing dad. it was about doing your best and being proud of what you’d accomplished. having integrity, playing clean and honest. yeah, i’m waiting on their co-written parenting book myself.

daniel. that name is a sentence in it’s self. i could write so much but I’m just going to dive into the newest and biggest thing. daniel left this week for something called the world race. he applied last summer, was accepted, and spent the last year training for this new journey. he sold all his possessions and will be spending the next 11 months in 11 different countries sharing God’s love and helping those in need. you can follow daniel and his teams adventures on his blog.

i’m going to have to say i don’t know mark nearly as well as i’m sure i’d like too. he’s hysterical. he had everyone cracking up during our session which was great! he married maria and is great friends with daniel, which means he’s got to be a great guy. he’s loved by both doug and laurette. he pretty much has the life every guy hopes to marry into. he does however lack the adorable durick freckles, so he might not be quite as cute as the rest of the family. (just kidding of course)

ok so know you know a little bit of the amazingness of this family, you have earned some pictures of them. enjoy!

laurette works in the office of darly at jonabell stud farm here in lexington. it was a huge treat to see the grounds and get to photograph on some of the beautiful restored houses and areas of this property. i even got to see the huge wall of trophies, including a preakness cup. among the sites, some studs from top sires and grave monument to affirmed.

did i mention they are die hard bengals fans? this is the first athletic team i’ve ever photographed:)

one of my favorites, mark and maria proving football is way more romantic than we give it credit for.

turning {1}. | lexington, ky children’s photographer

my littlest man turned 1 yesterday. it was a bittersweet day that i can’t believe already came and went. he’s the baby of 4. the most content little man, happy all the time and slept through the night pretty early on. i would have been happy for him to remain a sweet little newborn forever. he of course didn’t and is now a crawling, standing, climbing little almost-toddler. he was spoiled with sweets yesterday, had a great time at the park, his favorite dinner and lots of family time. happy birthday my little alex. i love you more than you’ll ever know. i choose not to do a real session with him yet, just took pictures throughout the day with him. i’ll do that in the next week or so and of course post again:)

still love those sweet baby toes

summer runs | lexington, ky photographer

i try to get out most evenings for a 3+ mile run. at this point there is a lot of walking involved since i’ve only been back at it for 3 weeks having not run in over 2 years. however the path that i run most often is just beautiful. especially at sunset when I usually go. yesterday i headed over just a wee bit early with my camera to grab a few shots before my running partners showed up. the “flowers” bring back vivid memories of my childhood, and the rest, well, they are just what I see on my sweet summer eve runs.

family of three | lexington, ky family photographer

this session was long awaited and rained out twice before we had the more glorious weather with beautiful skys. this lovely family drove from out of town twice to lexington for their first family pictures in 7 years, and i’m very glad to have spent time with them. they were fun and easy going despite the heat, humidity and swarms of ants. they are also quite a pretty family to look at, so enjoy:)
